Manly Aquatic Centre, known as Manly Andrew 'Boy' Charlton (MABC) Swim School, is an esteemed swimming club located in Sydney that is dedicated to promoting water safety and swimming skills for individuals of all ages.
One of the key programs offered by MABC Swim School is the ongoing children's swim program, which is available from Monday to Saturday. This program aims to enhance swimming abilities and water safety skills, with a strong emphasis on preventing drowning and ensuring safe aquatic activities. The swim lessons, lasting 30 minutes each, are conducted regularly even during school holidays, unless otherwise specified. The swim school prides itself on providing comprehensive instruction in personal survival and water safety skills, while also focusing on the development of efficient swimming techniques. Those interested in joining can easily enrol by emailing the swim school or visiting the centre and speaking to the friendly and helpful staff.
Moreover, MABC Swim School offers Parent and Child Water Familiarisation Classes specifically designed for children aged 6 to 36 months. These classes serve as an introduction to water safety and teach crucial underwater skills, such as floating, jumping, turning, and holding, to both infants and their parents.
For preschool-aged children (3-5 years), MABC Swim School provides a Learn to Swim program consisting of five different levels. This program is specially designed to build water confidence and teach water safety skills. Activities such as climbing out of the pool, resurfacing and floating, paddling, and progressing towards the development of freestyle and backstroke are all part of this comprehensive program.
School-aged children have the opportunity to join the Learn to Swim and Stroke Development program, which encompasses seven levels. This program strikes a fine balance between survival skills, stroke development, and correction, enabling participants to build their swimming strength and confidence.
MABC Swim School also offers the Swim Stars program catering to children with special needs. These classes are designed to improve muscle strength, physical endurance, flexibility, self-control, and safety. Participants have the option to choose between group lessons or private lessons, with a maximum of three students in each group.
Swimmers who have successfully completed the Active Award levels and are transitioning to the squad program can join the Minis squad, which lasts for 30 minutes. This program primarily focuses on developing all four swimming strokes, introducing basic training techniques, learning proper diving from the blocks, executing correct turns, and utilising the pace clock. Certain swimming times and sessions are prerequisites for joining this squad.
Understanding that participants may occasionally miss their lessons due to various reasons, MABC Swim School requests a minimum notice of 30 minutes prior to the scheduled lesson. In return for this notice, the swim school provides a family swim or practice pass that can be redeemed for the missed lesson. Each calendar year, participants receive six family practice passes, valid until December 31st, by presenting their student card to the reception staff.
Additionally, participants who plan to be away for a certain period can take advantage of the four suspension weeks offered by MABC Swim School each calendar year. With a 14-day notice, participants can suspend their regular classes for a fee of $5, as opposed to the full price.
In the event that participants wish to cancel their swim school classes, MABC Swim School requires a 14-day notice for processing. A cancellation form must be completed to initiate the cancellation process.
During the Christmas period, the swim school does not conduct lessons on specific dates. The last lesson before the break is scheduled for Saturday, December 16, 2023, and lessons resume on Monday, January 15, 2024. Furthermore, MABC Swim School provides a range of important documents for enrolment, including a swim ability questionnaire, terms and conditions, credit card authorisation form, change bank details form, cancellation form, and notification form.
