Children’s Martial Arts Classes

The Koushinkan Aikido Oxford is thrilled to offer children's martial arts classes in the beautiful city of Oxford. We cater to children aged 4 to 16 and have designed our classes to suit different age groups. We have the Little Dragons class for 4-7 year olds, the Juniors class for 8-11 year olds, and the Cadets class for 10-16 year olds.

What sets Aikido apart from other martial arts like Karate or Taekwondo is that it's a defensive art form. We teach our students how to neutralise an attack while keeping both the attacker and defender safe. Safety is our utmost priority, especially when it comes to young growing bones. That's why our children's classes mainly focus on self-protection exercises and movement forms, without incorporating joint locking techniques.

Our curriculum for children aligns with the adult syllabus, but we also inject some fun games as rewards for good work. We believe that developing social skills is just as important as physical skills in martial arts. So, while your child learns self-defence techniques, they will also be building life skills such as punctuality, respect, consideration for others, self-discipline, and responsibility.

We take great pride in creating a positive and nurturing environment for our students. Through Aikido training, children experience an increase in self-esteem and sociability, making them more resilient to peer pressure. Our classes are taught by qualified instructors who hold accreditation in Safeguarding and Protecting Children. Additionally, they undergo current enhanced-CRB checks to ensure the safety of all our students.

In terms of pricing, we have a set fee per term which covers insurance, grading fees, and even a free karate suit for new students. We understand the challenges of having multiple children in activities, so we offer a discount for parents with multiple children training with us.
