About
Located in Garigal National Park, the Cascades Trail is a stunning hiking area and horse riding field in St. Ives, Sydney. This medium difficulty trail is perfect for walkers, horse riders, and mountain bikers who are looking to immerse themselves in the picturesque beauty of the area.
Starting at either St Ives or Davidson, visitors will be surrounded by native Australian trees, including Sydney red gums, Red Bloodwoods, and Scribbly Gums. As they make their way down to the creek, these larger trees give way to banksia, dwarf apple, and narrow-leafed apple species. The undergrowth is adorned with wattles, pea, boronia, and wax flowers, creating a vibrant and colourful scenery.
The trail gets its name from the cascades, a series of stunning little waterfalls, rock platforms, and rockpools at the junction of Middle Harbour creek and French's creek. This is a lovely spot along the trail to take a break, enjoy a picnic, and take in the natural beauty that surrounds you.
Continuing on Cascades trail, visitors will leave the valley and climb up the sometimes steep trail to eventually exit onto Stone Parade. For those looking for a longer adventure, Cascades trail also connects to the Lower Cambourne and Heath and Bare Creek trails, allowing for a full-day loop.
Visitors are reminded to bring a hat, drinking water, and sunscreen, and to read the code of practise for horse riding in parks before setting out. Park entry fees apply at Davidson Park only.
The Cascades Trail in St. Ives offers a rejuvenating experience in nature, allowing visitors to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and bask in the tranquil surroundings of Garigal National Park.
