Initially known as Carmarthen Boat Club, the club gained formal recognition in 2020 as Carmarthen Rowing Club by both British and Welsh Rowing. Over the years, the club has grown in strength and has become a beloved institution for rowers in the area.
Located on the picturesque River Towy, Carmarthen Rowing Club offers its members a stunning backdrop for their rowing activities. With access to both upstream towards Abergwili and downstream towards the Llansteffan Estuary, the club provides a variety of scenic rowing routes. The river is generally calm and sheltered, providing ideal conditions for both recreational and competitive rowing. The club's fleet includes a range of boats suitable for both purposes, as well as a fleet of Concept 2 ergs for indoor training.
The club also boasts a team of experienced coaches who provide guidance and support to members.
The club's facilities include a compound that houses around 13 boats. The club is actively fundraising to acquire additional equipment such as cox boxes and blades. Membership at Carmarthen Rowing Club has been steadily increasing since its inception. The club currently has Men's, Women's, and Novice squads, with plans underway to establish a junior squad in 2021. Members of Carmarthen Rowing Club have participated in prestigious international events, including the World Coastal Championships at Lake Geneva, the European Universities Rowing Championship, and the Henley Royal Regatta. In 2022, the World Coastal Championships were held in Saundersfoot, and Carmarthen Rowing Club proudly sent two crews to represent them.
The club is fully affiliated with Welsh Rowing, the governing body for the sport in Wales, ensuring that members have access to a wide range of resources and support. Carmarthen Rowing Club has a rich history, beginning with a group of friends coming together with a shared passion for rowing.
