The club prides itself on its competitive spirit and welcoming atmosphere. It regularly hosts regattas and races, providing opportunities for sailors of all skill levels to test their abilities on the beautiful Carlingford Lough. Members have access to well-maintained facilities, including moorings, boat storage, and a clubhouse with stunning views of the water.
One of the highlights of the club's calendar is the Annual Warrenpoint Regatta, a highly anticipated event that attracts sailors from all over the region. Race Officer Tom Kearney meticulously plans a four-race programme, ensuring a fair and exciting competition. In the latest edition, Tim Gibbon's boat, “Warrior,” emerged as the overall event winner, narrowly beating Tom Teggart's “Perseverance” for second place.
In addition to competitive racing, the club also organises leisure cruises and special events. One of the most popular events is the Moneley Oyster Pearl Cruiser Regatta, which sees a fleet of thirteen cruisers compete over two days. Carlingford Lough Yacht Club values inclusivity and encourages people of all ages to get involved in sailing. The club hosts an Open Day each year, giving individuals the opportunity to try dinghy sailing, paddleboarding, and even take a ride on a cruiser. They also offer sailing courses for both adults and children, ensuring that everyone has a chance to develop their skills and enjoy the thrill of being on the water.
The club's commitment to excellence is evident in the prestigious Boathouse Trophy race. Although conditions did not align for the race to the Imogene cardinal buoy in Dundalk Bay, the club rescheduled the event and organised three races inside the Lough. The trophy was eventually awarded to Atlantic Diva, showcasing the skill and determination of the club's members.
Carlingford Lough Yacht Club is a vibrant and inclusive community of sailing enthusiasts. With its stunning location, welcoming members, and exciting events, it continues to be a popular destination for anyone who loves messing about in boats.
