About

1906 and has since been a central hub for sailors in the Gourock area. It is a small but welcoming space that offers a range of amenities and services to its members.

Cardwell Bay Sailing Club (CBSC) is proud to promote both Cruising and Racing. The club was initially founded by boat owners in Cardwell Bay in 1906 and has grown into a tight-knit community of sailing enthusiasts. Located on the south shore of the Firth of Clyde, near the east side of Gourock and bordering Greenock, the Bay provides a picturesque and sheltered mooring for CBSC Members and other boat owners.

The club hosts various racing events throughout the year. The Primary Points Series kicks off the racing season in April/May, followed by two points series over the summer. Races start promptly at 7:25pm on Monday evenings. Additionally, Thursday evening cup races take place in May, June, and July.

For those who prefer a more leisurely sailing experience, the club organises Saturday Cruises/Races in May and June. After the cruise/race, crews gather ashore for a post-event muster. Members are encouraged to join the musters, whether by ferry, car, or sailing.

The highlight of the sailing season is the regatta, which is held at Cardwell Bay on the first or second Saturday of August. Spectators can watch the thrilling racing action from the shoreline before joining the festivities at the clubhouse.

The CBSC clubhouse, located in Cove Road, Gourock, has been a cherished gathering spot for club members for over a century. The historic building provides a cosy and comfortable atmosphere for sailors to relax and socialise. It is equipped with all the essential amenities sailors may need, including changing rooms, showers, and a well-stocked bar. The clubhouse also serves as a venue for club meetings, presentations, and demonstrations.

Cardwell Bay Sailing Club warmly welcomes new members of all skill levels, whether experienced sailors or novices. Membership applications can be made through the online enquiry form, accessible via the “Join CBSC” section on the club's website. The annual membership costs are 40 for adults (25+), 45 for families, 10 for young adults (18-24), and 5 for cadets (12-17).

Whether you're an experienced sailor looking to take part in exhilarating races or a novice seeking a welcoming community to learn and enjoy sailing, Cardwell Bay Sailing Club offers a vibrant and inclusive environment for all.
