Capoeira Bondi is a martial arts school located in Sydney, Australia. With a focus on the Brazilian martial art of Capoeira, the school combines elements of fight, acrobatics, music, and dance. Capoeira Bondi is a friendly and welcoming community that encourages individuals of all ages and genders to join.
Capoeira is not just a form of exercise but also an art form. Students at Capoeira Bondi learn to play musical instruments, sing in Portuguese, and embrace various customs and etiquette associated with Capoeira. The practise of Capoeira enhances agility, fast reflexes, and flexibility. The constant motion of the body, along with moves that require balancing on one leg or hand, improves coordination and strengthens the upper body.
Capoeira is also great for cardiovascular health as it involves weight-bearing movements in all directions, increasing stamina. A one-hour session of Capoeira burns approximately 500 calories. Additionally, Capoeira promotes concentration and meditation, allowing students to focus solely on their movements and being present in the moment.
Capoeira Bondi offers classes for both children and adults. Children who enrol in Capoeira classes will have the opportunity to learn various skills such as self-defence, a new language (Portuguese), teamwork, dancing, singing, playing musical instruments, discipline, and most importantly, have fun.
Classes at Capoeira Bondi are held on Wednesdays from 5:15 pm to 6:15 pm, and on Fridays from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The classes take place at the Bondi Scout Hall located at 63 Wairoa Ave in North Bondi. For more information or to register for classes, individuals can contact Capoeira Bondi at 0449 624 391.
In addition to regular classes, Capoeira Bondi holds special events. One notable event was the 1st Australian Capoeira Festival held at Bondi Beach. This national festival brought together Capoeira Master Gilson and several special guests from around Australia and Brazil.
Mestre Gilson Ribeiro de Jesus, the founder of Capoeira Bondi, was born in Bahia, Brazil. Having been exposed to Capoeira from a young age, Gilson was instantly drawn to its energy, vitality, and athleticism. He has dedicated his life to the practise and teaching of Capoeira, sharing its rich history and cultural significance with his students.
Capoeira Bondi is a place where individuals can embrace the art of Capoeira, strengthen their bodies, and become part of a vibrant and supportive community.
