The Canadian Shotokan Karate Association in Calgary is a traditional martial arts school dedicated to providing high-quality training for students of all ages and abilities. Offering classes for Little Tigers (ages 4-8), beginners (ages 8-80), and advanced students, the dojo caters to individuals looking to improve their physical fitness, mental discipline, and self-defence skills.
Led by Sensei Yamaguchi Toru, a former member of the Japan Karate Association and a Kumite winner in the JKA All-Japan Championships, our dojo embodies the spirit of Shi-Ku-Kai, which roughly translates to “Club of High Ambition or Strong Heart”. With a focus on strong character and determination, students are guided through the traditional forms of Kihon (basics), Kata (forms), and Kumite (sparring) to develop a solid foundation in Shotokan Karate.
Our training methods emphasize the importance of continuous practice to refine techniques and movement patterns. With opportunities for team training at local, national, and international competitions, advanced students have the chance to deepen their understanding of Shotokan Karate and improve their speed and power.
With several certified black belt instructors and years of experience in teaching martial arts, the Canadian Shotokan Karate Association is committed to helping students reach their full potential and achieve their goals.
