Cameo Tigers Netball Club is a local sports club located in Seaford, Carrum Downs, and the surrounding areas in Melbourne. The club has a rich history and has been providing opportunities for netball players of all ages and skill levels for many years.
In the 2022 season, Cameo Tigers had a successful year, as they were able to play a full season of Winter and Spring without any lockdowns. Winter consisted of 19 teams, including 16 junior teams and 3 senior teams. The club had an impressive performance, with 11 teams out of 13 making it to the finals and 8 teams reaching the grand finals. In the end, 5 teams emerged as champions of their respective divisions.
Not only did the club excel in competitions, but individual members also stood out. Maddie Cowan, Allirah Kerr, and Shannon McLeary received their C badge for umpiring, and Allirah Kerr was accepted into the Netball Victoria Talent Academy. Amy Verran was nominated for the Admin award, Jess Jones was nominated for coach of the year, and Hayley Lansdown won the junior coach of the year award. Shannon McLeary was honoured with the values award for umpiring.
Cameo Tigers also prides itself on developing and nurturing its members. Throughout the season, the club welcomed 3 new coaches, 2 new assistant coaches, and 3 new umpires. Regular coaches and umpires continued to improve their skills and contribute to the growth of the club. A record-breaking 19 club members represented the Frankston District Netball Association (FDNA) Squad, and 3 club coaches were part of the representative team.
In addition to competitive play, the club organised various social and community events. Members enjoyed a Gravity Zone night, participated in an Easter raffle, held a successful M&M fundraiser, and celebrated Mothers' and Fathers' Day games. The club also attended a Vixens game and participated in ANZAC Day activities.
During winter, the club made the decision to relocate their junior teams from FDNA to the Chelsea District Netball Association (CDNA) after 46 years. The move was motivated by the desire to offer a more consistent and supportive netball programme that would benefit the young players' development and growth. The seniors will continue to compete at FDNA.
Cameo Tigers Netball Club is committed to upholding the policies and guidelines set by Netball Victoria and FDNA. The club adheres to the Child Safety Standards, Code of Conduct (including for spectators, coaches, umpires, and players), and the specific policies of FDNA and Netball Victoria. A grading policy is also in place to ensure fair and competitive team placement.
As Cameo Tigers looks ahead to the 2023 season, they are excited to start a new chapter at CDNA and continue their tradition of providing a supportive and competitive environment for netball players in the local community.
