Dan), who is based in London and has been practising aikido for over 50 years. Our club follows the principles and techniques taught by Terry Ezra and the KAA.
Where and when we train?
We have three classes per week at different locations in Cambridge. On Saturdays, our class takes place from 10:30 to 12:25 at the University Sports Centre. Our Tuesday class is held from 19:00 to 21:00 at Chesterton Sports Centre, and on Thursdays, we have a class from 20:30 to 22:00 at the Kelsey Kerridge sports centre.
It is important for our members to be punctual for class as we believe that “time is money”. We value everyone's time and strive to start and finish classes promptly. We also prioritise the safety and well-being of our members, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, we kindly request that individuals refrain from attending classes if they have any transmissible disease, display symptoms, or are self-isolating.
In addition to our classes for adults, we also offer a separate class for young people aged 9 and above. This class runs parallel to the adult class and takes place from 19:00 to 20:00 at Chesterton Sports Centre. If you are interested in enrolling your child or teenager in this class, please get in touch with us for more information.
For teenagers above the age of 14, we encourage them to reach out to us to check the availability of spots in our adult classes. We believe that martial arts can be beneficial for individuals of all ages, and we welcome teenagers who are interested in learning and practising aikido.
Interested in learning Aikido?
If you are interested in starting Aikido, whether you are a complete beginner or have previous experience, we warmly welcome you to join our dojo. We encourage new individuals to contact us to learn more about our classes and to arrange a visit to observe any of our sessions. We believe that witnessing our classes firsthand can help individuals understand our teaching style and determine if it aligns with their goals and aspirations.
Throughout the year, we organise various courses and events for our members and the wider aikido community. These events provide opportunities for practitioners to deepen their knowledge, enhance their skills, and connect with fellow enthusiasts. For example, we have an upcoming one-day course in Birkenhead on 25 November, and we are also planning our annual Christmas training on Saturday 16 December. We encourage individuals to stay updated on our courses page for information about these events.
Our aikido club values diversity, respect, and the sharing of knowledge. We embrace individuals from different backgrounds and cultures, and our club serves as a hub for practitioners from all over the world. On our mats, various languages are spoken, and different styles and influences of aikido are represented. We believe in the power of shared experiences and learning from one another.
At Cambridge Aiki Dojo, we practise aikido as a means to reconcile and unite human beings. We adhere to the words of Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikido, who said, “Aiki is not a technique to fight with or defeat an enemy. It is the way to reconcile the world and make human beings one family. ” We aim to create a supportive and inclusive environment where individuals can learn and grow both physically and mentally.
