Whether you are a part-time enthusiast or a competitive athlete, Burleigh Barbell Club is here to help you achieve your goals.
Head Coach Callum Hannay is passionate about weightlifting and is committed to sharing his knowledge and expertise with the club's members. With years of experience in the sport, Callum understands the importance of flexibility, strength, and coordination in weightlifting and strives to instil these qualities in his training programmes.
Assisting Callum is Assistant Coach Luke Gardner, who boasts an impressive 22 years of weightlifting experience. With his wealth of knowledge, Luke is an invaluable asset to the club and provides expert guidance to members.
Another Assistant Coach at Burleigh Barbell Club is Brayden Williams. Brayden, a national-level lifter, brings meticulous attention to detail to his coaching approach. With his keen eye, Brayden ensures that members receive personalised training programmes tailored to their individual needs and goals.
At Burleigh Barbell Club, classes typically run for approximately two hours. During these sessions, members work through their individualised programmes, which include warmups, stability work, technical exercises, strength training, and accessory work. The club welcomes individuals of all fitness levels and provides a supportive environment for both beginners and experienced lifters to thrive.
When it comes to attire, any fitness apparel is suitable for training at Burleigh Barbell Club. However, weightlifting shoes are recommended, and the club even has pairs available for borrowing if necessary.
One of the common concerns potential members have is whether weightlifting is only for competitive athletes. The answer is a resounding no! Burleigh Barbell Club extends its services to a wide range of individuals, from children as young as seven to adults in their seventies. The benefits of weightlifting are tremendous, including mental fortitude, improved bone density, and enhanced athletic development.
As for the number of training sessions per week, it ultimately depends on your personal goals and schedule. While the club recommends a minimum of two sessions per week, they also understand that life can be hectic and offer flexibility to accommodate individual circumstances.
If you are an absolute beginner unsure of where to start, Burleigh Barbell Club is eager to assist you. Simply reach out via email or phone, and Head Coach Callum Hannay will provide one-on-one personal sessions to help you familiarise yourself with the lifts and settle into the club. Remember, weightlifting is a marathon, and the key is to start. You don't have to be great to begin, but you have to begin to become great.
