Join Bryn Welfare Bowls Club in Port Talbot and become part of a vibrant lawn bowls community with a rich history. Established in 2023, Bryn Welfare welcomes both men and women players, offering a friendly and inclusive environment for all.
The men's team competes in the Port Talbot & District Bowls League on Wednesday evenings, facing teams like Briton Ferry Steel and Port Talbot Ynys. They also play in the Neath & District Bowls League on Saturday afternoons against teams such as Taibach and Tata Steel.
The women's team participates in the West Glamorgan Ladies League, with matches on Monday evenings and Thursday afternoons against teams like Swansea and Vivian Park.
Bryn Welfare prepares diligently for each season, working with Absolute Grasscare to maintain the green. A new patio overlooking the green is almost ready, providing a comfortable sitting area for members and visitors. The club is also enhancing its flower beds for a more pleasant atmosphere.
The club currently holds third place in the Neath & District Bowls League and has a commendable standing in the Port Talbot & District Bowls League. Bryn Welfare extends its gratitude to sponsors and partners for their support.
Under the guidance of President Paul Potts, Vice Presidents David Eckton and Norman Perry, Chairman Gareth T. Jones, Secretary Ceri Lewis, and Treasurer Graham Merriman, the club operates smoothly. The structure includes trustees, team captains, officers, and committees. An annual general meeting allows members to actively participate in shaping the club’s future.
Bryn Welfare boasts an exceptional green, maintained under a 25-year lease agreement with the Local Authority, and a well-kept pavilion available for members and other groups.
Membership is open to everyone, with a commitment to equal opportunities. Adult players can register to participate in league matches, while adult social members can enjoy the facilities and friendly fixtures. Juniors under 18 are also welcome to join.
New bowlers receive necessary equipment free of charge, and five qualified coaches are available to help improve their skills through coaching sessions.
