To maintain and care for a horse, so we strive to provide affordable and accessible horse riding lessons and livery services at Brocks Farm Riding School and Livery in Stockbridge.
Owned and operated by Mrs. Janette Burtenshaw, affectionately known as “Mrs. B,” the riding school has been in operation since 1985. Mrs.
B herself learned to ride as a child, owning her own pony and bravely riding a variety of mischievous ponies that no one else would ride. Her passion for horses led her to work in a racing yard and eventually start her own riding school. Mrs. B has four children who have excelled in various equestrian disciplines such as showing, dressage, show jumping, and eventing.
One of Mrs. B's daughters, Lucinda Burtenshaw, or “Lulu,” is also actively involved in the riding school. Lulu started riding at the age of five and has enjoyed participating in all pony club activities. She has achieved the P.
C A test and has a wealth of experience in eventing, having competed at an intermediate level. Lulu now focuses on dressage and has successfully trained two horses up to Intermediare 1 level.
Another daughter, Phillipa Teggin, or “Pippa,” has also been deeply involved in the equestrian world from a young age. She has participated in pony club activities and achieved the P. C. A test.
Pippa has achieved great success in showing, including competing at the prestigious O. Y. S with her home-produced show hack High Society. Pippa is also a judge and has trained horses up to Grand Prix level.
In addition, she is a highly sought-after dressage trainer for eventers in Ireland and young riders in England.
Tracy Phipps is a key member of the Brocks Farm team and has been with the riding school for a long time. Tracy came to Brocks Farm to train for her exams and has since enjoyed success in jumping and dressage, riding Brocks Farm ponies.
Brocks Farm Riding School offers a range of lessons suited to riders of all ages and abilities. New clients are asked to come for an assessment lesson, after which the way forward for their riding journey is discussed. Lessons are designed with varied and sound content, always prioritising safety. The riding school offers lead rein lessons for small children, allowing them to progress to riding off the rein.
Lessons include riding in an enclosed area, games, and riding out. There are also lunge lessons for beginners, class lessons for those riding off the rein, and jumping lessons for riders with the ability. Half-hour private lessons are available for both adults and children, as well as semi-private lessons. The riding school also offers hacking experiences for riders to explore the beautiful surroundings on horseback.
At Brocks Farm, the safety, and well-being of both riders and horses are of utmost importance. In the event of lesson cancellations, a 10. 00 fee is charged for lessons not cancelled 24 hours in advance. If the weather is deemed too bad, the riding school will cancel lessons to ensure the safety of all involved.
Proper attire is required for riding lessons, including strong trousers, short-sleeve shirts, gloves, waterproof coats, walking shoes, and boots with a small heel. Crash helmets are mandatory for all riders. Trainers are not permitted for the safety of the rider.
