Brighouse Bay Trekking, located in Kirkcudbright, offers an array of horse riding activities for individuals of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're a beginner looking to learn the basics or an experienced rider craving some adventure, they have something for everyone.
For those just starting out, Brighouse Bay Trekking provides starter treks which serve as a safe introduction to horse riding. Lasting for 30 minutes, participants are given a brief lesson on control before setting off on a relaxing stroll through the fields. These treks are available from Easter to October and are suitable for riders aged 8 years and above. Kids under 8 can also join in on the fun, as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
If you're a beginner craving a bit more excitement, walking treks might be your thing. Lasting for 45 minutes, these treks are conducted on reliable native ponies and offer a tranquil walk through scenic routes. Similar to the starter treks, children under 8 can participate if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Walking treks are also available from Easter to October and are suitable for riders aged 8 years and above.
For the more experienced equestrians, Brighouse Bay Trekking offers fast hacks and beach hacks. Fast hacks, lasting around 45 minutes, provide the opportunity to walk, trot, and canter in a safe and peaceful manner. The minimum age requirement for fast hacks is 10 years old, and they are available from May to September. Now, if you're up for a real adrenaline rush, beach hacks are where it's at. Only for the most experienced riders, these hacks take you on an exhilarating one-hour adventure. However, please note, beach hacks are subject to tide conditions and involve a fast canter along the beach. The minimum age requirement for beach hacks is 12 years old, and they can also be enjoyed from May to September. Before embarking on any hack, riders are assessed in the outdoor arena to ensure their comfortability and riding ability.
Brighouse Bay Trekking hasn't forgotten about our littlest riders either. They offer weenie rides, suitable for anyone aged 5 years old and above. These rides allow new riders to build their confidence while being led by a team member. Rides typically last for 10–15 minutes and are available all year round.
For those interested in enhancing their riding skills, Brighouse Bay Trekking provides lessons in their spacious 60m × 20m sand arena. Both private and group sessions are offered, ranging from 30 to 45 minutes in duration. The minimum age requirement for lessons is 7 years old, and they are available throughout the year.
If owning a horse or pony is on your mind, Brighouse Bay Trekking has got you covered with their 'Own-a-Pony' sessions. Open to both children and adults, these sessions offer a chance to learn and experience stable management and riding. It's the perfect opportunity to learn the ropes before taking the leap into horse ownership.
And for their loyal customers who wish to progress and achieve TRSS Level Awards, Brighouse Bay Trekking hosts Saturday clubs. With three different levels, there is a club for beginners as well as more advanced riders. The minimum age requirement for these clubs is 7 years old.
