Hello Sports Community,
Sensei Gary Wright wanted to share a bit about Brigg Wado Ryu Karate & Kickboxing Academy, right here in Brigg, North Lincolnshire. Since starting in 2009, Gary and his wife Midge have been at the heart of this local club, offering karate and kickboxing for everyone, from kids to adults.
With 25 years in Wado Ryu karate, Gary leads the academy with a focus on discipline and personal growth. Midge, also a black belt, stands by his side, and together, they’ve created a welcoming environment for all ages and abilities. They aim to make martial arts training accessible and affordable for the community.
Classes cater to students from 5 to 55 years old. Senior students, who’ve earned their brown and black belts, step up as assistant coaches, helping and mentoring the younger ones. This setup builds skills, confidence, and a real sense of camaraderie.
Brigg Wado Ryu has celebrated many successes, from representing the English Karate Organisation (EKO) squad to winning numerous trophies and medals. But what matters most to Gary is the boost in confidence his students gain from training.
The academy recently opened its own dedicated dojo at Cranidge House on Bridge Street in Brigg, marking a big step forward. This new space will support folks from Brigg, Scunthorpe, and beyond for many years.
More than just a training facility, Brigg Wado Ryu is like a second family. It’s a place where members support each other’s personal growth. Sensei Gary feels immense pride in watching his students progress, seeing the academy as a space for self-defence, confidence, and development.
