Bridgefield Water Polo Liverpool

Bridgefield Water Polo Liverpool is a well-established swimming club that was formed in 1989 by members of Bridgefield Swimming Club in Halewood, Liverpool. Originally based at the former school turned leisure centre of the same name, the club has had to adapt and relocate over the years due to changes in facilities.

After the demolition of Bridgefield leisure centre in the late 90s, the swimming club relocated to the new Halewood Sports Centre, while the water polo club found a new home at Kirkby Swimming Pool, the only all-deep facility on Merseyside at that time. Unfortunately, Kirkby Swimming Pool was later closed down, requiring the water polo club to search for a new venue.

After training at various locations including the University of Liverpool and St. Francis Xavier's College, Bridgefield Water Polo eventually found a new home at the Austin Rawlinson Sports Centre in Speke in 2006. In 2020, the water polo section of the club decided to separate from the swimming club and establish its own entity, Bridgefield Water Polo Club.

Bridgefield Water Polo Club is proud to be affiliated with Swim England and has achieved SwimMark status, ensuring a commitment to providing safe and high-quality water polo sessions. The club welcomes boys and girls aged 8 to 16, as well as junior and senior men aged 17 and above.

The club offers a wide range of competitive opportunities for its members. The Senior Men's team competes in both the prestigious British Water Polo League and regional leagues. Additionally, the junior section participates in the Swim England National Age Groups Championships (NAG's), regional leagues, and various friendly competitions and mini-polo festivals.

Bridgefield Water Polo Club strives to be inclusive and caters to players of all ages and abilities. It only requires players to be water confident and have an enthusiasm for team sports. The club's professional and experienced coaching staff ensure that players receive proper training and guidance to help them develop their skills and reach their full potential.

The club's training sessions take place at the Austin Rawlinson Sports Centre in Speke. Different age groups have specific training times and follow the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) framework stages. The club offers sessions for Splash Ball (U11), Mini Polo (U13), Development (U15), Youth (U17), and Junior Men (U19). There is also a training programme for Senior Men.
