Bournemouth Kanku Karate Club

Welcome to Bournemouth Kanku Karate, a Martial Arts school located in Bournemouth, New Zealand. The club specialises in the traditional style of Karate called Shotokan, which is the oldest style of Japanese Karate. Our experienced instructors have studied under the top Karate masters in the world, ensuring that students receive the highest level of training.

Our Chief Instructor, Sensei Gerry Breeze (9th Dan), has been with the club for almost 55 years, providing dedicated and knowledgeable instruction to all members. At Bournemouth Kanku Karate, our aim is to offer disciplined technical instruction while incorporating the Japanese 'fighting spirit', allowing each student to reach their full potential.

The club instructors place a great emphasis on their own training and development, ensuring that the club never remains stagnant. We regularly hold training sessions with other clubs to exchange knowledge and improve our skills. Additionally, we conduct gradings every three months, where students have the opportunity to demonstrate their progress and advance through the belt system. The ultimate goal is to achieve the 1st Dan and earn the prestigious black belt.

For those interested in testing their skills in a competitive environment, we encourage club members to participate in competitions. This not only provides an opportunity for growth but also allows individuals to showcase their abilities.

Additionally, we provide a brief history of karate, allowing students to understand the origins of Shotokan Karate.

Our class times are as follows: Juniors meet on Monday and Thursday from 6:15 pm to 7:30 pm, while Seniors meet from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm. The classes take place at St. Lukes CofE Primary School, located at Beminster Road, Bournemouth BH9 1LG. Access to the car park and entrance is available on Ridley Road.
