Boulder Project is an exciting and vibrant rock climbing gym located in the inner-south of Melbourne, specifically in the suburb of Prahran. Since its opening in February 2020, Boulder Project has become the first climbing gym in the area, offering a unique and inclusive climbing experience that reflects the strong social, fitness, and music culture of Prahran and its surrounding community.
At Boulder Project, they believe in challenging oneself and fostering a sense of community within the climbing world. With new routes set every fortnight, climbers can always expect fresh and exciting challenges. The gym is designed to accommodate climbers of all levels, providing a wide range of grades to ensure there is something for everyone, from beginners to experienced climbers.
For those new to climbing, Boulder Project offers Beginner Classes every Wednesday night, led by their resident climbing coach, Liam. These classes provide specialised coaching tailored to individual abilities and include a full evening climbing pass, free rental shoes, and more. It's the perfect opportunity to learn the foundations of climbing and enhance your skills in a supportive and knowledgeable environment.
Boulder Project also caters to the younger generation with their Kids Climbing Classes. These classes introduce children to the basics of bouldering, teach new techniques, and help them overcome mental barriers through engaging and physically challenging activities. Kids Climbing Classes take place every Saturday and Sunday at 11am, ensuring an exciting and educational experience for children of all skill levels. School and group bookings are also available.
For those curious about bouldering, it is one of the purest forms of rock climbing. Unlike traditional climbing with ropes and harnesses, bouldering takes place on shorter heights, typically around 5 metres, with the use of thick foam bouldering mats for safety. The routes are designed to be fun and challenging for both beginners and experienced climbers. All that is needed to get started is climbing shoes and chalk to keep hands dry.
Boulder Project proudly acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which their gym rests, the Wurundjeri and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation. They recognise and respect their enduring connexion to the country and extend their respect to Elders past, present, and emerging. They also extend this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
