Phil, the organiser, shares some updates about Bordon Skate Park with the sports community. Located at the junction of Budds Lane and Station Road, this beloved park caters to skateboarders, BMX riders, and scooter enthusiasts. It falls under the care of Whitehill Town Council and is owned by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation.
One new feature is the water bottle refill station installed in February 2022. This handy addition, funded by S106 developer contributions, allows everyone to top up their reusable water bottles, cutting down on single-use plastic. It's the first one in the area, showing the town's commitment to sustainability.
The park had its big opening on 29 July 2017, with BMX Olympian Liam Phillips and Councillor Colin Leach, the Mayor of Whitehill and Bordon, joining the celebration. More than 500 people turned up, proving how popular it is. It has been a favourite spot ever since, where young folks come together to hone their skills.
Whitehill Town Council has put out some friendly advice to keep things running smoothly, especially during busy times like school holidays. They remind everyone to park thoughtfully, be careful around traffic, respect the park's facilities and other users, use the bins provided, and report any issues to the Council or the Police.
Previously, there was another skate park, but it had to be taken down because of vandalism and made way for the new Mill Chase Academy. This current park is placed strategically on Station Road and Budds Lane for easy access and is away from residential areas to keep the noise down. It’s in a spot that’s visible from multiple routes, ensuring good oversight and security.
Phil and the team are pleased to see Bordon Skate Park continue to be a hub for the community, offering a great space for skateboarding, BMX riding, and scootering. With the new water bottle refill station and a focus on safety and sustainability, the park is a welcoming place for everyone to enjoy their favourite activities.
