John, the organiser for Bolney Cricket Club, would like to share a bit about the club with the sports community. Located in Haywards Heath, Sussex, Bolney Cricket Club has a long history, dating back to 1840. The ground, nestled next to the village church and a charming Victorian school, provides a picturesque backdrop for matches.
One of the club's standout features is its highly regarded teas – often said to be the best in Sussex. John ensures that both players and spectators are well catered for. The club also has its own dedicated scorers, groundsman, and umpire, maintaining a high standard for all games.
Bolney Cricket Club competes in the Sussex League on Saturdays and hosts friendly matches on Sundays. John's always keen on welcoming new members, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie. The support from The Bolney Estate, which sponsors the club, is sincerely appreciated.
Historically, Bolney Cricket Club has deep roots. Though cricket was played with neighbouring villages from the 1750s, the first recorded match of an all-Bolney team was in August 1840. Over time, the club has moved across various grounds, finally settling at the Vicarage Field in 1925. They started playing league cricket in the Sussex Championship in 1975 and moved to the Mid-Sussex League in 1998.
Bolney played its first league match 50 years after setting up at the Vicarage Field. The club's dedication to cricket continued with the opening of a new pavilion in June 2004, marked by a match against the County Club.
Visitors are encouraged to browse the club’s gallery, which showcases photographs by Mel Brunt from Recollection Photography. There’s also a blog, updated regularly with the latest news and events. For those wanting to reach out, contact details are available, and club policies ensure a safe, inclusive environment for everyone.
Bolney Cricket Club, with its scenic grounds, rich history, and welcoming spirit, is a fantastic place for cricket enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. John looks forward to seeing you there.
