The Bollington and Royal Oak Angling Society offers a friendly and welcoming environment for fishing enthusiasts in the village of Bollington. The club boasts several well-stocked pools in and around the village, including a small section of the River Dean. Anglers can expect to find a variety of fish in these waters, such as Roach, Bream, Tench, Perch, Pike, Carp, and Gudgeon.
Membership to the club is open to anyone, with special reduced prices available for OAPs, Juniors, and lady anglers. The membership year runs from January 1st to December 31st, and membership fees are as follows: Senior member 20 per year, OAPs 8 per year, Juniors 8 per year, and Ladies 8 per year. Additionally, those seeking access to the club's waters can purchase keys for 3 each.
To join the club, interested individuals should send their membership subscriptions with a self-addressed envelope to Andy Brocklehurst at the specified address. It is requested that all members, new and old, include their email addresses along with their subscriptions if available.
The club's website provides information on the various club waters and their locations. Directions to each water are provided from the Bus terminus at the junction of Shrigley Road, Ingersley Road, and Palmerston Street. For example, Clarence Pool is accessible by turning right at the traffic lights after the canal bridge and following the road up the hill. Lowerhousepool can be reached by turning right into Albert Road after passing the Co-operative Late Shop, and the pool is located behind the mill.
The River Dean can be accessed from Lowerhousepool and spans four fields. Kerridge Pools requires turning left on Clarke Lane just before the Silk Road roundabout and going through Moat House Farm.
The club promotes responsible fishing practises. All fish, including trout, must be returned to the water alive. While most club waters are open year-round, the River Dean is only open for fly-fishing from April 1st and for other methods from June 16th, with fishing ceasing on November 30th. The club holds monthly meetings on the 3rd Monday of each month, with the annual general meeting taking place in February.
Night fishing is not permitted, and juniors aged 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult on all waters.
Additionally, the club has a few rules to ensure a peaceful and enjoyable experience for everyone. Radios are not allowed on club waters, and keepnets should comply with the guidelines set by The Environment Agency. Large fish, like carp, should be returned to the water immediately. Anglers are also encouraged to take their litter home and dispose of it responsibly.
