From under-represented communities. Our aim is to provide them with access to high-quality training, mentorship, and paid opportunities in the field of hip hop dance and dance theatre.
At Body Politic, we believe that everyone has the right to experience art and culture. We actively campaign to ensure that our work is accessible to those who are often excluded due to inaccessibility or cost. Through innovative collaborations, productions, and outreach work, we strive to change the landscape of hip hop dance theatre, both locally and nationally.
One of our core beliefs is in the power of working collaboratively to continuously challenge, reinvent, and elevate new diverse voices within the cultural sector. We recognise the transformative potential of hip hop dance and dance theatre in the lives and experiences of young people from vulnerable and marginalised communities. To support this, we provide infrastructure, training, and support to help promote and elevate the young artists of the future.
Our creative learning initiatives are a vital part of our work. We deliver a subsidised programme of dance activity in Oxford, partnering with school engagement officers, social services, and other local organisations to target young people from under-represented communities. By providing them with access to high-quality training, mentorship, and paid opportunities, we aim to transform their lives and empower them to find their own unique voices through hip hop dance and dance theatre.
Body Politic is committed to ensuring that true representation of community, people, and place are reflected in our organisation. From board level to the young people we work with, we strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone's voice is heard and valued.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced dancer, we invite you to join our weekly hip hop classes for ages 5–16 years in Oxford. No previous experience is required, just come and have fun with us as we explore the artistry and creativity of hip hop dance.
Want to get more involved with the company? We are always on the lookout for passionate individuals who are interested in marketing, media, or are artists looking for work. If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you!
