The league was founded with the goal of providing a friendly and inclusive environment for women of all skill levels to enjoy playing soccer and building connections within the community. Players must be at least 24 years old to participate in the league, ensuring a level playing field for all members.
BLSL's season consists of 10 regular season games followed by three round-robin playoff games. The playoff tournament takes place on a weekend in mid-September, with semi-final games on Saturday and the final game on Sunday. The league uses player ratings to create teams that are as evenly matched as possible, promoting fair and competitive gameplay.
All games are scheduled on Monday nights from May to September, with each game consisting of two 45-minute fully refereed halves. After the games, players are encouraged to socialize and connect with one another at the Black Bull in Burlington, further fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among members.
BLSL has a proud history of competition and success, with champions crowned annually. Recent champions include the Summer 2023 Champions, the 2019 Champions, the 2018 Runner Up, the 2018 Champions, and the 2016 Champions. These achievements reflect the dedication and skill of the league's members, who come together to enjoy the beautiful game of soccer in a supportive and enjoyable environment.
