Welcome to Blantyre Bowling Club, a valued part of the local community in Glasgow, South Lanarkshire. Founded in 1872, Blantyre Bowling Club has a long and rich history, and is considered one of the finest clubs in the land.
At Blantyre Bowling Club, true progress is found in the friendly rapport among the members. The club prides itself on being a family club, where the absence of rancour creates a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. The success of the club is not only measured by its achievements on the field, but also by the spirit of hospitality that has been nurtured over the years.
The club has produced some fine players who have added tangible trophies to the record book. These achievements were once thought impossible, but through foresight and continual strive for improvement, the club has achieved remarkable success.
Our members play a crucial role in making our club what it is. They volunteer their time to help with the upkeep of the facilities, share the club's values of maintaining traditions while embracing social change, and most importantly, they have fun and enjoy the game and the friendly rivalries.
Our committee manages the club, ensuring that everything runs smoothly and efficiently. They work hard to organise playing and social events for our members. Throughout the playing season, members can participate in numerous internal tournaments, ranging from single-handed to team competitions. Those who achieve internal success may also be selected to represent the club in various District, County, and National competitions.
In addition to playing bowls, we also have a vibrant social calendar. Members can enjoy social events throughout the season, as well as a full social programme during the closed season.
Our season is from May to September, and we have highlights from the opening to the prize-giving. Last year, we had some success in outside competitions, and our own finals brought our season to a close.
To learn more about the sport of bowls, you can visit external sites such as World Bowls, Bowls Scotland, and the LBA. We also have resources available to help beginners learn the basics of the game, including aiming points and common faults.
