The Blackwater Judo Club is an independent Judo organisation in Maldon, affiliated with Essex Boys and Girls Clubs. Sensei John Pegram founded the club, which focuses on traditional Kodokan style Judo. The instructors at the Blackwater Judo Club follow traditional Judo theory and techniques, emphasising the importance of competitive Judo and Katas.
If you're interested in joining the club and participating in Judo, they meet once a week on Saturday mornings. All judoka aged 6 and above are welcome to join. The cost for each session is £2.00, and there is also an annual license fee of £5.00, which includes third party insurance.
For different age groups, the club holds classes at different locations. The Junior Session (ages 6 to 16) takes place on Thursday evenings at the Blackwater Leisure Centre in Maldon. The address for the Junior Session is Park Drive, Maldon, Essex CM9 5UR. On Saturday mornings, the Older Juniors and Seniors class is held at the West Maldon Community Centre, located at Sunbury Way, Maldon.
Parents are encouraged to actively participate in the club by assisting with the mats, becoming timekeepers, and recording during sessions. It's also great if senior Judoka and higher grade Juniors can help supervise and teach the junior Judoka. It's important to mention that all senior instructors are DBS checked, ensuring a safe environment for everyone.
Visitors from any organisation are welcome at the Blackwater Judo Club. However, they must bring their current license as proof of insurance. If you have retired from Judo or any other martial art but want to get back on the mat, the club welcomes you. Just let them know your previous level of experience and if you have any injuries.
