Blacklion Greystones USKFI Karate is a martial arts club located in Greystones, County Wicklow. Established in August 2015, the club initially operated out of St Laurences Primary School hall before relocating to the larger sports hall at St Davids School on Marine Rd in 2018. The facilities were further upgraded in 2022 to create a state-of-the-art sports arena for members to train in.
The club is led by Senior Instructor Neil Anderson, who holds a 3rd Dan black belt, along with assistant Instructor (Sempai) Amanda Anderson also a 3rd Dan black belt, and Sempai Anne Bowes, who holds a 2nd Dan black belt. All instructors are fully Garda vetted, and Child Protection certified, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for students of all ages and levels.
Blacklion Greystones USKFI Karate is affiliated with the United Shotokan Karate Federation of Ireland (USKFI), which has a rich history dating back to the 1980s. Sensei Michael Sherlock and Sensei David Royle, both former members of the Karate Union of Ireland (KUI), were instrumental in laying the foundation for the USKFI. Their vision was to provide a higher standard of karate training in Ireland through a more professionally run club with regular gradings and exposure to expertise abroad.
Founded in 2002, Blacklion Greystones USKFI Karate continues to uphold the principles set forth by its founding members. The club offers a structured and international outlook on karate training, with strong support from the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB). Members have the opportunity to train and compete at various levels, gaining valuable experience and elevating their skills to new heights.
