Blackhorse is a horse riding field located in Waitoki, New Zealand. It is a unique and outstanding sport horse and players riding leader, founded by Robyn Gloyn, who comes from three generations of livestock and Agriculture. Robyn, who was the Deputy Head Girl of her high school, started Pony Club at the age of four and continued until she was 18. At Blackhorse, the main focus is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for individuals of all ages to enjoy horse riding. With a team of experienced and qualified instructors, Blackhorse offers a range of professional equestrian training courses and events suitable for beginners to advanced riders. The facility offers one-off experience classes, short-term training programmes, NZPCA certified courses, horse riding events, and group gathering events.
Blackhorse takes pride in its well-rounded course design and flexible membership system, allowing members to explore the art of equestrianism and learn more about its culture and history. The instructors adopt a learner-centred pathway of teaching, emphasising the development of sports skills while also providing opportunities to learn humanistic and cultural knowledge related to horse riding. Through the lessons, learners are expected to enhance their athletic abilities, coordination, independence, social skills, and self-confidence through understanding the horse's character and habits.
Whether you have never ridden a horse before or are looking to improve your advanced riding skills, Blackhorse offers private, semi-private, and group training lessons that combine theoretical knowledge with practical training. The group lessons are organised based on the level of equestrian experience and age to ensure effective learning and foster competitional abilities within the group.
The venue at Blackhorse is equipped with top-notch facilities to support the training programmes. It includes an arena for dressage, a horse walker, show jumping areas, and a horse solarium. These facilities provide ample space for riders to practise and improve their skills.
With Errol Gloyn as the coach, Blackhorse benefits from his expertise in starting and training young horses as well as retraining problem horses and their riders for multiple disciplines. Errol has a wealth of coaching experience, including coaching the NZ Women's Team versus Australia, coaching England versus South Africa in 2002, and coaching England in the World Cup against Australia in 2003. He has also been the coach for the NZ Open Polocrosse Team in several World Cups. Personally, Errol has achieved great success as the captain of the NZ Polocrosse Team for 10 years, winning 16 NZ Titles and two Australian Zone Men's Titles.
