Bessingby Park Bowls Club is a vibrant and friendly lawn bowls club located in the heart of Bessingby Park in Ruislip Manor, London. Established in 1991, the club aims to provide an outdoor activity and facility for members of the local community. The primary goal is to promote physical and mental well-being through participation in outdoor sports.
Inside the club, members can enjoy a range of social activities, including quizzes, bingo, card games, and music. The club fosters a strong community spirit and provides a welcoming environment for members to gather, meet friends, and socialise.
The club boasts a fantastic clubhouse, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The brand new, air-conditioned pavilion offers a comfortable and spacious area for members to relax and socialise. The kitchen area is fully equipped to cater for various social events, and a drinks vending machine provides members with a wide selection of soft and alcoholic beverages at competitive prices. The clubhouse was officially opened by Cllr Ray Puddifoot, the leader of Hillingdon Council, and Cllr Catherine Dann, the Worshipful Mayor, on 26th February 2015.
Outside the clubhouse, members can enjoy the club's excellent patio area, complete with tables, chairs, and umbrellas. This is the perfect spot to relax and watch the bowls games or enjoy a drink after playing.
The club offers regular roll-up sessions on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons starting at 2 pm, with members advised to arrive by 1:30 pm for the rinks to be organised. On Wednesday evenings, start times vary throughout the year and are updated on the home page ticker tape and the club's WhatsApp members group. It is recommended to arrive 30 minutes before the start time to secure a game.
Participation in matches against other clubs is encouraged but not mandatory. The club arranges matches during the week and on weekends. Additionally, the club organises internal competitions throughout the year for those interested in a more competitive experience.
In addition to sporting activities, the club hosts various social functions, including quizzes, whist drives, bingo nights, and occasional race day/evenings, often accompanied by a delicious fish and chips supper.
Bessingby Park Bowls Club is proud to have a committee consisting of dedicated members who aim to ensure the smooth running and success of the club. The 2022 Committee is led by Chairman Ian Crew, with Anne Crew as the Club Captain and Ian Crew as the Vice Captain and Secretary.
