Netball Club is a prominent sports club based in Melbourne, Australia. With a rich history dating back to 1955, the club has established itself as a respected and successful participant in the netball community. Initially known as the Berwick Women's Basketball Club, the club transitioned to the Berwick Netball Club in 1971 to align with the national name change.
The club's home ground is the Arch Brown Reserve, formerly known as Buchanan Park, which was renamed in honour of Arch Brown's dedicated service to the Berwick Football Club. In 1979, a new netball court was opened at the reserve, marking a significant milestone for the club. Berwick Netball Club has since become a familiar presence at the Arch Brown Reserve, hosting various junior and senior netball events.
Throughout the years, the club has fostered a strong sense of community and camaraderie. The dedicated efforts of numerous individuals have been recognised through the awarding of Life Memberships. These esteemed individuals, such as Barbara Turner, Judy Davies, and Sarah McDermott, have played an instrumental role in shaping the club's success. Their contributions are celebrated as an important part of the club's history.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Berwick Netball Club actively participated in netball associations, particularly the Dandenong and District Netball Association. The club experienced considerable growth during this period, with over 200 players representing the club. In 2000, the club relocated to outdoor netball courts adjacent to the Athletics Track and Berwick Football ground. These courts were developed as part of the 2000 Olympics Torch Relay festivities.
As of 2024, Berwick Netball Club will compete in the newly formed South East leading League (SEPNL). The club's participation in various football/netball leagues, such as the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League (MPNFL) and the South East Football Netball League (SEFNL), has allowed it to establish strong partnerships with other clubs and expand its reach within the netball community.
The club is governed by a dedicated committee comprised of passionate individuals. Lani Mannays serves as the President, supported by Raphael Mannays as the Vice President. Nichole Bell takes on the role of Secretary, while Sarah Clarke manages the club's finances as the Treasurer. The committee also includes individuals responsible for coaching, events, sponsorships, media, uniform management, equipment, and child safety.
The Berwick Netball Club is grateful for the support of its major sponsors, whose contributions play a vital role in the club's operations and success. Without their generous support, the club would not be able to provide its members with quality training, coaching, and competitive opportunities.
Whether you are a seasoned netball player or a beginner looking to join a supportive and inclusive sporting community, Berwick Netball Club welcomes you with open arms. With its rich history, strong leadership, and commitment to excellence, the club strives to provide a nurturing environment for all members to grow, both on and off the court.
