Benson Stage Academy Scarborough is a well-established dance school offering a wide range of classes for all ages and abilities. Located on Commercial Street, behind the Commercial Pub next to Crown Glass Glazing, the academy provides a friendly and supportive atmosphere for dancers to express themselves with confidence.

Founded in 1945 by the late Miss Mamie Benson, Benson Stage Academy is proud to be the longest established dance school in Scarborough. With highly qualified teachers, the academy offers classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Cheer dance, Freestyle, Acro, and Strictly Solo. All classes are designed to improve posture, promote good health, and boost confidence.

Ballet classes at Benson Stage Academy help students develop poise, good posture, elegance, balance, and coordination. Tap dance classes build strength in the legs and feet while increasing flexibility in the hips, knees, and ankles. Modern dance classes combine several techniques, incorporating contemporary, jazz, commercial, and modern styles. Cheerleading classes focus on dance skills and acrobatics, fostering athletic discipline, strength, coordination, and flexibility.

Freestyle dance is a modern and expressive style that involves runs, spins, kicks, leaps, and a variety of diverse steps and movements. Acro is a unique blend of classical techniques and acrobatic skills.

The academy hosts two shows each year. The annual whole school show in March at the YMCA Scarborough raises funds for charities chosen by the pupils, such as Sands, Alzheimer's Society, and the Melanoma Fund. The other show, performed in September, features pupils who attend classes during the summer holidays. Profits from this show go towards the school's wardrobe fund, providing costumes for the dancers.
