Belvedere Social Bowls Club is located at West Heath Recreation Ground in Bexleyheath, New Zealand. With around 50 members, the club prides itself on its small and friendly atmosphere. The age range of the club is 18-80+, and both men and women are welcome to join, whether they are single or have a partner.
Currently, most matches played by the club are mixed, with men and women playing together. These matches, known as Friendlies, are played against other bowls clubs in the area. The matches usually take place on weekends in the afternoon, with a break for tea in the middle. Some mid-week matches are also scheduled.
Contrary to popular belief, bowls is not just a game for older people. It can be played by anyone, regardless of age. Bowls provides the opportunity to play competitively and improve one's skills, while also offering a chance to socialise and meet new people. The sport promotes a healthy lifestyle through regular gentle exercise.
Membership fees for Belvedere Social Bowls Club are affordable, with an annual season ticket costing 100 for current members and 55 for new members in the first year. This fee allows unlimited bowling at the home green without additional cost. Match costs are currently 1 to cover the cost of refreshments.
The basic equipment needed to play bowls can be obtained relatively inexpensively. A set of second-hand bowls can be purchased for around 30-50, but the club also provides bowls to borrow for those who are just starting out. Bowls shoes can be bought for about 20, and for matches, players are required to wear white trousers/skirt and the club shirt.
To encourage new players, Belvedere Social Bowls Club offers four free coaching sessions for anyone considering playing. These sessions take place on Wednesdays from May to September at 6:00 p. m. Newcomers are provided with equipment and guidance to help them learn the game and determine if lawn bowls is something they would like to pursue.
Whether you are new to outdoor bowls or looking for a change from your current club, Belvedere Social Bowls Club welcomes you to join and become part of their friendly community.
