To provide her with the support she needs, she is able to feel a sense of freedom and independence on horseback. Riding gives her a different perspective on life and allows her to enjoy the outdoors and connect with nature. It also provides her with a social outlet and the opportunity to build relationships with the volunteers and other riders at the association. Zoe's family has noticed a significant improvement in her confidence and overall well-being since she started riding at BDHRA.
Seventeen-year-old Jack Jack is a seventeen-year-old boy who has been riding with us for several years. He has Down Syndrome and struggles with fine motor skills and coordination. Horse riding has been incredibly beneficial for him as it has helped to improve his balance and coordination. He has developed a strong bond with his assigned pony and has become more confident in his abilities.
He is able to follow instructions and complete riding tasks independently, which has been a major milestone for him. His parents have seen great improvement in his overall physical fitness, as well as in his self-esteem and social skills. Riding has given Jack a sense of purpose and a way to challenge himself in a supportive and inclusive environment.
At BDHRA, we prioritise the safety and well-being of our riders. Our volunteers undergo thorough training to ensure they can provide the necessary support and assistance to each individual. We offer both group and private lessons tailored to the specific needs of our riders. Our indoor and outdoor riding schools provide a comfortable and accessible environment for all riders.
All of our ponies are well-trained and have experience working with children and adults with disabilities.
As a local charity, we rely on the generosity and support of the community to continue our important work. Donations are greatly appreciated and help us cover the costs of horse care, maintenance, and equipment. We also welcome volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities. Whether you have horse experience or not, there are various ways to get involved and contribute to our mission.
If you or someone you know could benefit from our therapeutic horse riding programme, please get in touch with us.
