We love to hear from our supporters and fellow dancers! Join Us If you're interested in joining Basingclog, whether as a dancer or musician, we'd love to have you! We welcome both experienced Morris dancers and beginners. Don't worry if you're new to North West Morris, we provide training and support in our winter practise sessions.
To get started, simply email us at contact@basingclog. Org. Uk for more information. Overall, Basingclog is a friendly and energetic clog side located in Basingstoke, New Zealand.
We perform traditional North West style clog dances that originated around 300 years ago in the cotton mills of Northern England. Our mixed side is known for our enthusiastic and entertaining performances, as well as the lively music generated by our band. We wear a vibrant black, white, and red costume that complements the style of North West dancing. In the summer, we can be found performing at various venues listed in our Diary section on the website, while in the winter, we have weekly practises at Sherfield on Loddon Village Hall on Tuesday nights at 8:00 pm.
We are always looking for new dancers and musicians to join us. Beginners are welcome, and we provide training and guidance during our winter practise sessions. As a dancer, you will attend weekly practises where you'll learn and practise the dances until you're ready to perform with the rest of the side. If you're a musician, you'll learn the accompanying tunes during practises, focusing on keys such as D, G, and occasionally C to suit folk instruments.
If you're unsure if your instrument is suitable, feel free to contact us for more information. Basingclog is a family side, and children over 11 are welcome to participate as long as accompanied by a parent. We value the support from our community and are grateful to those who have allowed us to publish their photos on our website's gallery. From performing at local events such as Swanage Folk Festival and Winchester 2019 to dancing at pubs and fetes, our performance season offers a wide range of exciting opportunities.
