Barakee Welsh Mountain Ponies, located in Longwood East, Victoria, is a well-established pony club dedicated to breeding Welsh Mountain ponies true to their type. The club originated in 1992 with the purchase of Nattai Caradog, a 4-year-old Welsh Mountain Pony Gelding, from Lady Creswick's Nattai Stud. Caradog had a remarkable career, participating and excelling in led, saddle, and harness classes.
In February 1994, Barakee Welsh Mountain Pony Stud officially came into existence with the acquisition of Nattai Medwen, a grey yearling Welsh Mountain Pony filly. Medwen would later become the foundation mare of the stud. The ponies at Barakee are all descendants of Medwen and are primarily bred from Coed Coch and Nattai lines. Medwen herself enjoyed a highly successful show career, securing the Best Welsh Exhibit title, along with a Bronze Medal from the Welsh Pony & Cob Society UK, at the 2001 Victorian All Welsh Show.
All of Medwen's progeny and descendants have also achieved notable successes, including wins and placings at the Victorian All Welsh Show.
The club's location in Longwood East, just a five-minute drive from the Hume Highway, provides easy access for members and visitors alike. Barakee Welsh Mountain Pony Stud extends a warm welcome to all visitors who are invited to explore their website and discover the enchanting world of Welsh Mountain ponies. Wendy Parsons, the owner of Barakee, is happy to accommodate visitors who wish to see the ponies up close.
