Banbury Boxing Club

Banbury Boxing Club, located in Banbury, is a welcoming and inclusive boxing club that caters to males and females of all ages and body types, from 9 to 35 years old. The club's main focus is on teaching boxing skills to provide today's young people with a positive direction in life. Founded in September 2012 by brothers Ben and Tom Malcher, Mark Cooper, and Dave Green, Banbury Boxing Club is a proud affiliate of England Boxing. As a not-for-profit charitable club, the club is run by dedicated volunteers and is supported by donations, grants, and member subscriptions. The club caters to both competitive and recreational boxers and offers affordable boxing classes in a safe environment.

The main goal of Banbury Boxing Club is to provide competitive boxers with the opportunity to train and compete in amateur boxing. The club hopes that some of its members may one day represent the Home Counties, England, or even Team GB. The club is affiliated with various boxing associations, including England Boxing, Home Counties Amateur Boxing Association, ABA, Olympics, GB Boxing, Sport England, and ClubMark.

Banbury Boxing Club is proud of its achievements and has produced several competitive boxers since its establishment. Some of its members have gone on to become Home Counties and National Champions. In 2013, the club registered the first two female boxers from Banbury to ever compete in an ABA/England Boxing sanctioned contest.

The coaching team at Banbury Boxing Club is certified and registered with the Home Counties ABA and England Boxing. All coaches have enhanced DBS/CRB clearance and current first aid certificates. The coaching team includes Ben Malcher, the England Boxing Coach Level 2, Club Match-Maker, Secretary, and Welfare Officer, Dave Hughes, England Boxing Coach Level 2, Joe Dennnison, England Boxing Coach Level 1 and Club Chairman, Reggie Brown, England Boxing Coach Level 2, Simon Leech, England Boxing Coach Level 1 and Club Vice Chairman, and Josh Malcher, England Boxing Coach Level 1. The club is also looking for additional coaches to join their team.

Banbury Boxing Club offers various classes throughout the week. On Mondays, there are classes specifically catering to beginners and recreational boxers. These sessions allow participants to learn the basic skills of boxing, gain confidence, and improve their fitness levels. The classes are divided by age groups, with sessions for ages 8-10, 11-14, and 15-30.

On Tuesdays, the club offers a boxing squad class for competitive and development boxers, with sessions for ages 9-14 and 15-30. Thursdays are dedicated to the boxing squad class for all genders. Fridays offer strength and conditioning sessions exclusively for competitive and development boxers aged 14 and above. Lastly, on Sundays, there is a boxing squad session for ages 10 and above, specifically for carded boxers by invitation only.

It's important to note that Banbury Boxing Club is not a commercial gym but a boxing club for individuals who want to participate in the sport of boxing. Given the nature of boxing being a full-contact combat sport, the club cannot accept individuals who actively participate in unlicensed boxing, “white collar” boxing, or MMA. Before joining, potential members are asked to consider their commitment and whether they can attend training sessions at least twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Those unable to commit to this schedule are welcome to join as recreational boxers and train on Mondays only.

The club offers the opportunity to assess skills and progress individuals onto the Boxing Squad when ready. Aspiring members are invited to observe club activities during the week or join a Monday Beginners session to learn the basics, gain confidence, and get fit one round at a time.

Banbury Boxing Club invites individuals who are interested in becoming a coach, assistant coach, or volunteer to get in touch with the club. The club is always looking for additional support to enhance their coaching team.
