Ballet Art Katoomba is a renowned ballet school located in the beautiful town of Katoomba, nestled in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia. Established in 2008 under the expert direction of Kathleen Hamilton, the school has since grown in size and reputation, attracting students of all ages who are passionate about classical ballet and contemporary dance.
At Ballet Art Katoomba, the focus is on providing students with proper dance technique in a nurturing and supportive environment. Whether they are beginners or experienced dancers, the dedicated team of instructors ensures that each student receives personalised attention and guidance to help them reach their full potential.
The school offers classes for students from the tender age of eighteen months all the way up to adult classes. For the younger students, the emphasis is on a child-friendly approach to learning ballet, promoting the enjoyment of expressing oneself through dance. As students progress to Primary level and beyond, they follow the esteemed Borovansky syllabus, which is rooted in the Russian style of classical ballet.
Ballet Art Katoomba also provides opportunities for students to showcase their hard work and talent. They have the chance to perform their class work for examination or assessment, offering a sense of achievement and a goal to work towards. Additionally, private coaching is available for those who wish to further develop their abilities through participation in eisteddfods, where they can gain valuable skills and confidence for the stage.
Every year, Ballet Art Katoomba organises an end-of-year performance, designed to be stress-free and affordable for parents while giving the students an invaluable opportunity to showcase their progress. The school believes in creating a nurturing and inclusive environment that allows dancers to thrive and express themselves freely.
As a testament to its commitment to the well-being of its students, all Ballet Art Katoomba teachers hold current Working With Children Checks, ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for every student.
Leading the school is Courtney Wilson, the Principal and Classical Ballet teacher. Born and raised in the Blue Mountains, Courtney began her ballet training at the age of four. Over the years, she has studied various ballet syllabi including Borovansky, Cecchetti, and RAD. Courtney's passion for ballet and dedication to teaching led her to achieve her Advanced 1 in both RAD and Borovansky, earning honours in both.
In 2013, she completed her teacher's training in the Borovansky syllabus, receiving her associate diploma, followed by her licentiate diploma in 2018. She is currently a member of the NSW branch of the Australian Institute of Classical Dance (ACID).
Courtney's training also extended to other dance styles, including character, repertoire, jazz, and contemporary. Her love for contemporary and choreography prompted her to pursue further training and choreograph her own pieces. She has participated in various dance festivals and companies, further enriching her dance expertise.
Moreover, Courtney's passion for understanding the human body led her to pursue additional studies, obtaining a University Certificate in Health and Rehabilitation Science. This knowledge and understanding of the body's mechanics greatly contribute to her teaching methods, ensuring the safety and well-being of her students.
With its commitment to excellence, holistic teaching methods, and nurturing environment, Ballet Art Katoomba continues to empower dancers of all ages and levels, helping them discover the joy and beauty of ballet and contemporary dance.
