Offering a comprehensive range of classes, they specialise in teaching classical ballet and contemporary dance to students of all ages. With a strong focus on proper dance technique and a supportive environment, Ballet Art Katoomba aims to nurture and inspire their students to achieve their full potential.
Established in 2008 under the direction of Kathleen Hamilton, Ballet Art Katoomba has grown significantly over the years. Many of their students have achieved outstanding results in competitions, events, and exams, showcasing the high standard of training provided by the school. Whether students aspire to become professional dancers or simply enjoy the art of dance, Ballet Art Katoomba is dedicated to helping them reach their goals.
As a child-friendly ballet school, Ballet Art Katoomba offers classes for students as young as eighteen months old. They believe in fostering a love for dance from an early age and providing a safe and enjoyable environment for young learners. Students from Primary level and upwards learn the Borovansky syllabus, which is derived from the Russian style of classical ballet. This syllabus provides a solid foundation in technique and instils discipline and artistry in the students.
One of the unique features of Ballet Art Katoomba is the opportunity for students to perform their class work for examination or assessment. This gives them a tangible goal to work towards and a sense of achievement upon completion. For those who wish to further develop their skills, private coaching is available for participation in eisteddfods. Eisteddfods offer students the chance to gain confidence and stage presence as they showcase their talents.
Ballet Art Katoomba also hosts an annual end-of-year performance, designed to be a low-stress and affordable experience for parents, while allowing children to showcase their progress and skills. This performance is a culmination of the year's hard work and dedication, providing students with a platform to shine on stage.
The dedicated teachers at Ballet Art Katoomba hold current Working With Children Checks, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students. Courtney Wilson, the Principal and Classical Ballet teacher, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the school. Having studied ballet since the age of four, Courtney has achieved advanced qualifications in both RAD and Borovansky syllabi, and she completed her teachers training in the Borovansky syllabus in 2013. She is also a member of the NSW branch of the Australian Institute of Classical Dance.
In addition to classical ballet, Ballet Art Katoomba offers training in other dance styles such as character, repertoire, jazz, and contemporary. Courtney Wilson herself has a passion for contemporary dance and choreography, having trained extensively in these areas. She is committed to providing a well-rounded dance education to her students.
