Australian Takemusu Aiki Renmei Inc. is a sports club located in Sydney, Australia. Established to support and promote the teachings of Aikido from the Founder's own dojo, the club is led by Chief Instructor and President Saburo Takayasu Sensei, a 7th Dan Shihan.
As a non-profit organisation, the Takemusu Aiki Renmei has played a quiet but positive role in spreading Aikido throughout the Sydney metropolitan area. The club now boasts several dojos, providing opportunities for Aikido training to individuals of all ages.
Aikido is a modern martial art founded by Morihei Ueshiba. It is unique in that it emphasises principles of non-aggression, non-resistance, and non-competitiveness. Aikido allows individuals to effectively defend themselves against larger and stronger attackers, without relying on great strength or speed. Additionally, Aikido teaches individuals to understand and respect one another.
One of the appealing aspects of Aikido is its gentle quality, making it suitable for both men and women, as well as children. Aikido offers not only physical exercise, but also spiritual development, mental concentration, balance, reflex action, and the learning of proper etiquette and behaviour.
In contrast to other martial arts that focus on strikes or grappling, Aikido places emphasis on timing, positioning, and balance taking, rather than physical strength and size. Techniques such as joint locks, pins, and throws are utilised to quickly immobilise an attacker and resolve conflicts in a peaceful and safe manner. Aikido practitioners step off the line of attack, unbalance their opponents, and end the encounter with a throw or take-down.
At Australian Takemusu Aiki Renmei Inc. , training partners alternate between offensive and defensive roles, allowing each individual to experience both aspects of the technique. Techniques can be practised slowly and gently or quickly and powerfully, facilitating progression at each individual's pace. The training atmosphere is one of cooperation and mutual respect, as Aikido is a non-competitive art.
The club is fortunate to have highly skilled teachers, including Saburo Takayasu Sensei and Derek Minus Sensei. Both Senseis have attained high dan ranks and offer classes at their respective locations in North Sydney and Ku-ring-gai, NSW.
If you're interested in learning Aikido and experiencing the harmony it brings, Australian Takemusu Aiki Renmei Inc. welcomes you to find a nearby location where you can start your journey.
