Aussie Kids Karate is a renowned sports club located in Toowoomba, Australia. The programme offered by Aussie Kids Karate is specifically designed to cater to young students aged 5 to 12 years old. It is based on the martial art form of Renbukan Karate, which falls under the Shito-Ryu style. Renbukan Karate was introduced into Australia in 1974 by the renowned Japanese Karate Master, Mr.
Katsumi Iba. The iconic symbol of Renbukan, a closed fist, represents the essence of the programme.
At Aussie Kids Karate, children are not only given the opportunity to experience the basic elements of traditional martial arts but also taught fundamental self-defence skills and strategies. Additionally, they are introduced to martial arts weapons, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of martial arts as a whole.
The Chief Instructor at Aussie Kids Karate is Shihan Mike Jordan, a highly experienced martial artist with a 5th Dan Black Belt. With over 45 years of involvement in martial arts, Shihan Mike Jordan trains students and their parents for multiple generations. Assisting him are a team of qualified and experienced teachers who possess a natural talent for nurturing the potential of each child.
A unique aspect of the Aussie Kids Karate programme is the use of Achievement Badges. These badges are awarded to children to recognise their success in specific areas of their martial arts training, similar to how the Scouts Association utilises badges. The badges are aimed at providing short-term goals for the children while they work towards the long-term goal of attaining their black belt.
The programme also includes Martial Games, which are specifically designed to allow members to have fun while developing essential skills for success, not only in martial arts but in any other physical activity they may be involved in. These games focus on improving coordination, balance, strength, and various defensive strategies, enhancing overall physical abilities.
Aussie Kids Karate boasts 20 branches across the region, providing ample opportunities for students to showcase their skills. Quarterly competitions are organised, giving members the chance to test their abilities against fellow students from different clubs. Competitors are matched based on their age, grade, size, and experience, ensuring fair competition. Aside from the competitive aspect, these competitions foster social connexions and allow members to form friendships with students from all around the Darling Downs.
The club is proud to have other experienced instructors supporting Shihan Mike Jordan, including Sensei Dann Luker, Assistant Instructor and Head Competition Coach, and Sensei Roma Luker and Sensei David Webster, who serve as Senior Instructors across multiple locations.
To cater to a wider audience, Aussie Kids Karate offers classes in various locations throughout the week. These include Monday classes at St Marys Hall in Warwick, Westbrook Public Hall in Westbrook, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church hall in Highfields. Additionally, classes are available on Tuesday at Peace Lutheran School Hall in Gatton and Milmerran State School Hall in Milmerran.
