Mona Lai founded “Aura School of Dance” in Vancouver with a mission to inspire lives through dance. The school offers a range of classes from beginner to advanced levels, including Chinese dance, creative dance, and dance fitness for all ages. The emphasis is on dedicated instruction and creativity, aiming to provide a space where students can explore movement and express themselves through dance.
Chinese Dance classes at Aura School of Dance focus on classical Chinese dance movement techniques that enhance overall body and mind wellness. Students will learn barre work and centre exercises to improve flexibility, coordination, muscle tone, and posture. The classes also incorporate folk dances from the 56 ethnic minority groups of China, providing a fun way to learn about Chinese culture and history. Classes are conducted in English, with terminology introduced in Cantonese and Mandarin.
Aura School of Dance follows the Beijing Dance Academy Chinese Dance Syllabus, which is recognized by both the Chinese and Canadian governments. Students can earn graduation credits through this syllabus, enhancing their fine arts and applied skills.
Creative Dance classes at Aura School of Dance aim to develop children's imagination, body coordination, and balance in a creative environment. Children as young as 3 to 4 years old can participate, and no dance background is required. The classes introduce basic ballet techniques, spatial awareness, and rhythmic skills through the use of props and moving to music. Mona Lai, the instructor and studio director at Aura School of Dance, is a certified teacher of the Beijing Dance Academy Chinese Dance Exam Syllabus, Progressive Ballet Technique (PBT), and Barre Fitness. With a background in Chinese classical and folk dance, ballet, contemporary, and tap dance training from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Mona brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her students. She has won several major dance competitions and has choreographed various projects, showcasing her passion and dedication to the art of dance.
