Welcome to Attenborough Village Bowls Club (AVBC), a friendly outdoor bowls club located in the picturesque village of Attenborough, near Beeston, Nottingham. With our venue situated on the edge of the Attenborough Nature Reserve, we offer one of the most scenic bowling experiences in the County.
Established in 1908 and reformed in 1981, Attenborough Village Bowls Club moved to its current location in 1991, midway between Beeston and Long Eaton. The club operates on an annual membership basis and warmly welcomes new members. We encourage potential members to come down and participate in a few roll-up sessions before deciding if they would like to join. Coaching is available for beginners or those in need of a refresher, and we have a selection of bowls that can be borrowed.
The club has its own private clubhouse and green, with social bowling sessions taking place on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday afternoons from April to September. Members meet at 1:45 pm for a 2 pm start and can choose to play for one or two hours, followed by a cup of tea (and cakes on Saturdays). In addition to social bowling, the club organises a number of internal knockout competitions during the season, as well as some tournaments that run throughout. Members can also use the facilities any time, provided the rinks have not been pre-booked.
Attenborough Village Bowls Club arranges friendly games against local clubs and actively participates in both the Nottinghamshire Bowls Leagues and the Beeston Open League. During the winter months, some of our players engage in indoor bowling at the Erewash Indoor Bowls Centre, representing various teams that compete on different days during the week.
Throughout the year, the club holds social events, and members are kept informed of these occasions through regular newsletters. The 2023 season started on Saturday, April 15. Club and league games can be found under the Fixtures section on our website.
It is important to note that the club experienced increased running costs last year, and additional costs were incurred for the replacement of the water pump for the green. Therefore, subscriptions for the upcoming season have been raised. Current members are encouraged to actively seek new members to support the club.
We extend our gratitude to everyone who attended the fundraising Coffee Morning on December 2. Finally, we send our warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all members and their families.
