Eaglehawk YMCA Athletics Club, a Marathon Running club in Bendigo, is excited to promote a local Marathon Running event organised by Athletics Victoria. Athletics Victoria is known for organising various track and field competitions throughout the year, offering both a summer and winter season.
The summer season, called the Athletics Victoria Shield League (AVSL), is scheduled to take place from October 2023 to March 2024. This exciting season offers a wide range of track and field events on a weekly basis at different venues. With over 50 clubs and five AVSL divisions, the competition is fierce as clubs compete in 12 rounds to determine promotion and relegation.
To participate in AVSL, athletes can purchase an AV membership and Summer package. However, there is also an option for people to come and try as trialling participants. So, if you're new to the sport or just want to give it a go, this is a fantastic opportunity to get involved.
Apart from AVSL, Athletics Victoria also organises State Championships, specialist group meets, club meets, and school competitions. The State Championships are open to all AV Base Membership holders, giving athletes the chance to go head-to-head with the best in Victoria. If you're interested in honing your skills in specific disciplines such as throwing, sprinting, jumping, high jump, pole vault, middle-distance running, or race walking, the specialist group meets are tailored for you.
Furthermore, athletics clubs have the opportunity to host their own meets by completing the Club Meet Booking Form. This allows clubs to create their own competitions and provide athletes with a unique experience.
Athletics Victoria also believes in promoting the sport of athletics in schools. They offer inclusive experiences for students of all abilities, ranging from educational athletics days to fun-filled festivals. It doesn't matter if your school has had previous involvement in athletics or not, Athletics Victoria welcomes everyone to participate and enjoy the sport.
For those who have a passion for cross-country running, Athletics Victoria has a winter season called XCR. This exciting season features community-based events of various distances and locations, providing runners of all abilities a chance to challenge themselves and enjoy different environments.
