Nicola Olyslagers, previously known as Nicola McDermott, has become a standout figure in the high jump scene over the past decade. Born in North Gosford and raised in Tascott, Australia, Nicola's journey in athletics began at the tender age of seven. Despite her tall stature, she initially lacked coordination, but her persistence and natural talent shone through. This early promise was realized when she joined Little Athletics, marking the beginning of her remarkable journey.
Nicola's career has been characterized by continuous improvement, year after year. 2018 was a pivotal year when she surprised many by medaling at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. This achievement was a springboard for her exceptional 2019 season, where she raised her personal best by five centimeters to 1.96m, earning her a spot among the top Australian high jumpers.
Her journey to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics was marked by perseverance, especially during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic.
