Keefer Wilson
Keefer Wilson (AU)
Biography
When Keefer Wilson was just 11, his backyard became the stuff of skateboarding legend. Thanks to his dad, Peter, who happens to be a professional golfer and keen surfer, Keefer had access to an 8.5-meter tall and 90-meter long skate ramp, one of the largest in the southern hemisphere. Built to X Games specifications on their property in Nyora, Victoria, this ramp attracted professional skateboarders from around the globe, becoming Keefer's training ground.
Peter's aim was simple: to keep his kids active and outdoors. As Keefer took to the ramp in 2017-18, his skills saw a meteoric rise. Within six months, he was invited to X Games Sydney, becoming the youngest competitor in the event's history at just 11 years old. His journey was momentarily paused by the COVID-19 lockdowns, but the backyard ramp ensured he never missed a beat.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Keefer landed a 900-degree spin at 12, making him the third Australian to nail this trick and the only one to land a body varial 900. With skateboarding's inclusion in the Olympics in 2020, Keefer saw a new challenge. He competed in X Games events worldwide and finished eighth at the Park World Championships in Rome in 2023, skating alongside his sister Aaliyah.
Keefer's competitive spirit soared at an Olympic qualification event in Shanghai in May 2024, where he triumphed over world champion Gavin Bottger. For Keefer, skateboarding is as much about family as it is about sport, sharing the highs and lows with his sister while keeping the energy levels sky-high during training sessions.
