Kai Taylor's rise in the world of competitive swimming has been nothing short of meteoric. Born in South Brisbane and nurtured by a rich legacy of swimming prowess, Kai inherited his passion for the sport from his mother, Hayley Lewis, an iconic figure in Australian swimming history. With her stellar achievements as a constant source of inspiration, Kai has been making waves in the pool from a young age.
In a stunning turn of events at the 2023 Australian swimming trials, Kai found himself in lane eight for the 200m freestyle final—a race he almost didn't make. His mother’s words of encouragement and her own legendary win from lane eight echoed in his mind as he surged ahead to clinch victory, solidifying his status as a rising star.
Kai carried this momentum to the World Championships in Fukuoka, where he added to Australia's medal tally with a gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay and a bronze in the 4x200m freestyle relay. His relentless pursuit of excellence continued into 2024, where he bagged a silver in the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay at the World Championships in Doha and a bronze in the men's 100m freestyle at the Australian Championships.
