Biography
Ethan Ewing, an exceptional surfer from Queensland, Australia, experienced perhaps his most transformative year in 2023. That year, he secured the crucial WSL ranking points to guarantee his spot at the Paris Olympics. Ethan's journey was filled with remarkable highs and some challenging lows. A poignant moment came when he won at Bells Beach, an event his late mother, Helen Lambert, won 40 years earlier. The victory was deeply emotional, connecting him to his family's surfing legacy.
2023 also saw Ethan embroiled in controversy and facing adversity. Following a quarter-finals win against Brazilian Gabriel Medina at the WSL’s Surf Ranch Pro, he unfortunately received death threats due to allegations of biased judging. Later that year, a serious injury threatened to derail his season when he fractured two vertebrae while free surfing in Tahiti. Despite these setbacks, Ethan showed incredible resilience, bouncing back within weeks to finish second in the world and becoming Australia’s top-ranked surfer for the year.
Ethan’s surfing story began on North Stradbroke Island, and by the age of 18, he had won the world junior championship and secured a place on the senior tour. His first World Tour victory came in 2022 at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa, signaling his rise to the top tier of competitive surfing.
