Biography
Ellen Perez, hailing from Wollongong, NSW, began her tennis journey at the tender age of seven when her father noticed her natural athleticism. She joined the Oak Flats Tennis Club and quickly started honing her skills. Her talent took her to the Tennis Australia academy at Melbourne Park, where she qualified for junior competitions at the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon.
Ellen has had significant success on the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) doubles circuit, where she has been a finalist seven times and clinched two titles. She won her first WTA doubles title with Daria Saville at the Internationaux de Strasbourg in 2019 and followed it up with another win alongside Astra Sharma at the Abierto Zapopan in Mexico.
In addition to her WTA accomplishments, Ellen has secured two singles titles and 17 doubles titles on the International Tennis Federation circuit since turning pro in 2013. She balanced her early professional career with collegiate tennis at the University of Georgia, where she majored in sport management. A standout player, she led her team to the NCAA final four and achieved a strong personal record while receiving the Leighton Ballew Women's Tennis Scholarship.
On the global stage, Ellen has made 12 grand slam doubles main draw appearances and enjoyed success at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, reaching the quarter-finals with partner Sam Stosur. Her performance at the 2022 US Open saw her achieve a career-best semi-final finish in women’s doubles with Nicole Melichar-Martinez. Additionally, Ellen played a key role in Australia’s runner-up finish at the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
More recently, in 2023, Ellen cracked the Top 10 in doubles rankings and finished as the runner-up at the WTA Finals. Despite facing early exits in both the women's and mixed doubles at the 2024 Australian Open, she continues to be a formidable presence on the court.
