Biography
Elle Armit's journey into the world of water polo began at the tender age of 10, when a school program introduced her to a fun, modified version of the sport known as 'Flippaball'. Instantly captivated, Elle joined the Townsville Water Polo club and quickly progressed through the ranks. Her talent was undeniable, and she began competing in the Australian national league with the Queensland Breakers in Brisbane. By 2013, she had earned her place on the senior national team, the Aussie Stingers.
Considered more at home in water than on land, Elle’s commitment to the sport took her across the globe. She developed her skills further playing for leagues in Spain and Italy, enriching her experience and bringing that expertise back to strengthen the Aussie Stingers. Elle’s standout moment came in 2017 when she scored four electrifying goals against the USA in the FINA World League, bringing her deserved recognition.
Her Olympic debut came at the Tokyo 2020 Games, where she played a pivotal role in the Stingers' commendable performances. Despite a nail-biting quarter-final loss to the Russian Olympic Committee, Elle's contributions helped Australia finish strong with consecutive victories, landing them a respectable fifth place.
In 2023, Elle's leadership was instrumental in guiding the Griffith University Queensland Thunder to a bronze medal in the Australian Water Polo League. She continued to showcase her scoring prowess on the world stage, contributing to Australia's fourth-place finish at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
Outside the pool, Elle is equally impressive. She is a dedicated high school teacher, specializing in PDHPE, English, and religion, embodying the balance of athletic excellence and academic dedication.
