Biography
Daria Saville, originally from Moscow, Russia, began her tennis journey at age six. Her love for the sport eventually led her to Australia, where she has represented her adopted country with pride. Daria's debut on the Olympic stage came at the Rio 2016 Games, marking the start of a notable international career. While she faced challenges early on, including a tough match against Serena Williams, she remained undeterred, showing promise by winning the US Open juniors and a Youth Olympic gold medal for Russia in 2010.
After moving to Australia in 2013, she quickly made her mark, partnering with Nick Kyrgios in the Hopman Cup and clinching her first WTA title at the Connecticut Open in 2017. However, her ascent was marred by injuries, including plantar fasciitis and a torn ACL, which repeatedly stalled her career. Despite these setbacks, Daria's resilience shone through as she returned to competitive tennis in 2022 and steadily climbed the rankings.
By 2024, she had not only regained her form but also claimed the title of the world no.1 Australian women's singles player for the first time in over six years. Her return was highlighted by significant performances, including a vital role in Australia’s qualification for the Billy Jean King Cup Finals. Married to fellow tennis player Luke Saville, Daria's journey is a testament to her determination and passion for the sport.
