Charlie Senior
Charlie Senior (AU)
Biography
Charlie Senior is a name to reckon with in Australia's boxing scene, particularly in the bantamweight category. Interestingly, Charlie's boxing journey began not in a gym but on the dance floor. At the age of 11, he peeked into a boxing gym next to his dance studio and decided to give it a go. Born in Bradford, UK, Charlie moved to Perth, Australia with his family when he was just two years old.
His transition from dance to boxing was swift and impactful. Charlie quickly bagged three national youth titles, and in 2019, he clinched the Elite Australian featherweight (57kg) title. This victory earned him a spot on the Australian team for the Asia/Oceania Olympic qualification tournament in 2020. Although he missed out on the Tokyo Games, he was undeterred.
Charlie faced another setback at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, losing a close bout against Canadian Keoma-Ali Al-Ahmadadieh. However, these disappointments only fueled his resolve. Training with some of the best from boxing powerhouses like India and Britain, Charlie honed his skills to perfection.
His hard work paid off at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands, where he dominated the bantamweight category and secured a gold medal, thus booking his ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympics. With a combination of nimble footwork and unyielding determination, Charlie Senior is all set to make Australia proud on the grandest stage of all.
